Sadly, the vast majority of Americans are, in fact, closet socialists and totalitarians--and they don't even know it. We've become so stupid as to no longer recognize stupidity. The basis of freedom (defined, in the government arena, as freedom from government) is individual liberty. Socialism is the polar opposite, placing the group before the individual, as if the group weren't made of individuals and as if the group were an entity in and of itself. Gwinnett County has seen fit to socialize trash pick-up for the county. After the transition period, our tax bill will include fees for this "service". Informal polling has suggested this is very much against the will of the people, but such is the nature of creeping tyranny. » read more »

It costs a lot to put your kid through college these days. Of course, you expect to get some value for your money, in the form of an educated young adult who can, you know, think and solve problems. Unfortunately, there is just no guarantee of that, as Rachel Lucas discovered recently:

It looks like the Islamic group Al Qaeda is again ramping up for an attack on the U.S. It's reported to be bigger than 9/11's attack. As porous as our borders are, even after 9/11, it'll be a cinch for these Muslims to infiltrate our nation. Most of our security is also a joke, made just for show and turned against U.S. citizens rather than the real bad guys (i.e., Muslims who take the Quran at face value)

Many things make me wonder if this time, right now, is very near the end of this age. I wonder if the end isn't within a decade, I mean. I abhor date-setting. I know it doesn't work, and there's far too much room in the interpretation of prophecies to proclaim any date for absolute certainty. However, we're clearly told we'll know the season. I think this may be it. I'm not writing this with any hint of dogma. I'm posing more of a "what if" scenario.
