The value of a college education

|

It costs a lot to put your kid through college these days. Of course, you expect to get some value for your money, in the form of an educated young adult who can, you know, think and solve problems. Unfortunately, there is just no guarantee of that, as Rachel Lucas discovered recently:

Lab partner: “Well now we must make the solutions stronger to test higher concentration.”

Me: “We can’t make them stronger, they’re from stock solution.”

LP: “So we just add more!” » read more »

Double standard

|

I suppose we see so much of this sort of thing that we can be inured to it, but sometimes it sticks in my craw. Have a look at this video, and then ask yourself what would have been the response -- from the police and the media -- if it had been KKK members, rather than the Black Panthers, outside the polling place.

Ezekiel and America

| | | |

Lately, I have been reading the book of Ezekiel. In some of the early chapters, I have been struck with the manner in which the events and visions described in God's Word parallel events that we see in America today. » read more »

Fathers, take note

A recent study reveals that kids who spend time with their fathers have higher IQs. The difference in IQ is detectable until after the children are in their 40s. I ran across this blog post a while back (Vox linked to it), and I wanted to pass it along. Too funny.

Please pray for new parents

|

Some friends of ours have just been blessed with their first child, and they are having a hard time. They are both strong believers, but I am afraid they are having a hard time hearing the Lord right now. » read more »

The "threat" of home schooling

| |

I believe that this article does an excellent job of summing up society's attitude toward homeschoolers, and why it is under attack. » read more »

The Basics

In this editorial, Joseph Farah suggests a radical notion: pass a test in order to qualify to vote. Of course, this idea has already been discussed at tuscanycircle in this thread. In the editorial, Farah provides a link to an online quiz comprised of some of the "more difficult" questions from the U.S. citizenship test. » read more »

It takes a (Canadian) village (with a courthouse)

|

It appears that in Canada, parenting may soon be illegal. As detailed in this article, a Canadian court has "overturned" a punishment administered by a father on his twelve year old daughter. The father grounded the daughter because of her disobedience. She took him to court and won -- the court "ordered the grounding... lifted". » read more »
